Editing Services that We Offer

A book can be the most thrilling story in the world and be ruined by spelling mistakes, punctuation errors, inconsistencies, and wonky sentence structure.

We think that most of us would agree that publishing a well-edited book is one of the most important contributors to success as an indie author. A poorly edited book usually reveals itself through lackluster reviews. Readers can be quick to point out typos and punctuation errors, as well as call out books that could have been put through a professional developmental edit.

We want to help you release a book that makes you proud! We found that the best way to do that was to offer a variety of services tailored to fit your needs, wherever you happen to be in your book writing journey.

Continue reading to see the editing and book development services that we offer.

In a nutshell, we provide the following editing services for indie authors:
  • Copyediting
  • Line Edits
  • Developmental Edits
  • Manuscript Critiques
  • Final Proofreading

But what do each of those services include? And what type of edit does your self-published book need? Keep reading to find out!

Copyediting:

Work with us to whip the details of your manuscript into publication-ready shape. We will comb through each sentence and word of your novel, perfecting sentence structure, voice consistency, continuity, tense, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and more. This is a very detailed edit to make sure that the mechanics of your book are in tip-top shape.

Line Edits:

(Similar to Copyedits but focuses on a few key differences.)

Our favorite service to offer! Work with us to make your prose sing! Line editing is often interchanged with the term copyediting. However, line editing is unique in that it blends copyediting and developmental editing. Not only will we edit for grammar, spelling, and punctuation, but we will look at your book line by line to consider word choice, syntax, and the beauty of the prose. We will recommend shifts and changes to perfect your manuscript. We will work closely together over several weeks to ensure that the final product of your book is as perfect as can be.

Developmental Edits:

A Developmental Edit is the perfect choice for the author determined to publish a book that exceeds expectations. If you have a manuscript that is nearly finished but feels somewhat incomplete, this may be the editing choice for you. We will dive deep into the plot and overall structure of your novel, analyzing it for structure, characters, genre expectations, theme, point of view, tension, pacing, reader satisfaction, and other essential elements. We will suggest edits to repair weak links within your prose. Our focus will be on the big picture, rather than the details of your novel.

Manuscript Critique:

(When you need a fresh, but professional pair of eyes on your book.)

During a Manuscript Critique, we will conduct a thorough read-through of your novel. We will make notes in your manuscript as we go and will also provide detailed notes in a separate document at the end of our read-through. The purpose of this service isn’t to do too much Developmental or Copyediting (though we will make notes of anything that we see that needs correcting as we go). Rather a Manuscript Critique functions as an overview from the perspective of professional editors to correct any glaring issues in your novel.

You can choose to have us critique your entire novel or only a few chapters, such as the first quarter or half of the book.

Final Proofread:

(The last pair of eyes on your final, final copy.)

A Final Proofread puts one last pair of laser-focused eyes on your manuscript to check for typos, continuity errors, spelling, and grammar mistakes. A proofreader will make sure that you didn’t switch the spelling of a character’s name mid-novel or change the way you use ellipses midway.

When you work with us for a Final Proofread, we will go through several rounds of proofreading your novel. We won’t be focusing on how pretty each sentence sounds or any plot elements. Rather, we will only focus on the detailed grammatical elements of your book. When we turn it back over to you, it will be ready to release to the world!

Yay! Thank you for sticking with us this far! What type of edit does your book need before it hits the marketplace? If you need help deciding, send us an email and let’s chat about your project!
