Learn More About Our Book Editing Services

Take your publishing dreams to the next level. From Copyediting, Line Edits, Developmental Edits, Manuscript Critiques, and Final Proofreading, we can help you take your dream of publishing a book and turn it into a reality.

SCHEDULE A COPYEDIT:

Work with us to whip the details of your manuscript into publication-ready shape. We will comb through each sentence and word of your novel, ensuring that spelling, punctuation, grammar, tense, continuity, and more are in perfect shape.

This is the choice for authors who are ready to hit “publish” and send their book into the world. Often, authors will choose to merge this type of edit with a line edit, which looks at sentence structure, voice, and the overall picture more in-depth. Traditionally, you would schedule a proofread with another provider after the copyedit, so that one final pair of eyes ensures that every tiny detail of your manuscript is absolutely perfect. If you have a great copyeditor however, it is possible to skip this step.

Work with us to whip the mechanics of your novel into shape. You’ll be ready to compete in today’s indie publishing marketplace in no time.

SCHEDULE A LINE EDIT

Our favorite service to offer! Work with me to make your prose sing.

Line editing is often interchanged with the term copyediting, but they are different. Line editing corrects elements like spelling, punctuation, and grammar, but it also goes line by line to consider word choice, syntax, and the beauty of the prose. Every sentence is carefully analyzed to make sure that it flows and sets your book apart from the rest. We will suggest changes to sentence structure, voice consistency, tone, and more. We will work closely together to make sure the outcome of the book is exactly what you want.

If you’ve already given your book a developmental edit and are debating between a Line edit and a Copyedit to get your novel finalized for publication and you are willing to consider changing words and phrases that may not flow optimally, this is the edit for you. Not only does it cover the mechanical aspects of your book, but it produces a book that reads beautifully. Like poetry in prose.

SCHEDULE A DEVELOPMENTAL EDIT

A Developmental Edit is the perfect choice for the author determined to publish a book that goes above and beyond expectations. If you have a manuscript that is nearly finished but feels somewhat incomplete or problematic, this may be the editing choice for you. We will dive deep into the plot and overall structure of your novel, analyzing it for structure, characters, genre expectations, theme, point of view, tension, pacing, reader satisfaction, and other essential elements. We will suggest edits to repair weak links within your prose. Our focus will be on the big picture, rather than the details of your novel. We will suggest ways to increase tension, improve the plot and pacing, and deepen the characters and theme.

SCHEDULE A MANUSCRIPT CRITIQUE

Manuscript Critiques are the perfect choice for the writer who wants to know if the general, overall direction of your project is on the right track for publication. Think of me as your writing partner, a second, non-biased pair of eyes on your work to help guide you into a finished draft.

During a Manuscript Critique, I will conduct a thorough read-through your novel. I will make notes in your manuscript as I go and will also provide detailed notes in a separate document at the end of my read-through. The purpose of this service isn’t to do too much Substantive or Copyediting (though I will make notes of anything that I see that needs correcting as a I go). Rather a Manuscript Critique functions as an overview from the perspective of a professional editor to correct any glaring issues in your novel.

You can choose to have me critique your entire novel or only a few chapters, such as the first quarter or half of the book.

SCHEDULE A FINAL PROOFREAD

A Final Proofread is the very last step in your publishing journey. If you’ve made it this far, congratulations! Publication Day is just around the corner! It’s time to celebrate.

A Final Proofread puts one last pair of laser-focused eyes on your manuscript. Ideally, your proofreader won’t be your Line Editor or a beta reader. This type of edit is designed to utilize a third party’s eyes to be a final layer of coverage for typos, continuity errors, spelling, and grammar errors. A proofreader will make sure that you didn’t suddenly switch the spelling of a character’s name mid-novel or suddenly change the way you use ellipses midway.

When you work with us for a Final Proofread, we will go through several rounds of proofreading your novel. We won’t be focusing on how pretty each sentence sounds or any plot elements. Rather, we will only focus on the detailed grammatical elements of your book. When we turn it over to you, it will be ready to release to the world.
